We lick the stars,
and burn our tongues,
can’t get enough,
so we’re chasing them.
We break our hearts,
cause we keep failing them,
our dreams slowly fade away,
while we’re sleeping in.
We say it’s art,
the life we chose to live,
doing hardcore drugs,
and too much partying.
Our inner voice,
so loud before,
now barely whispering.
Yeah, we live in sin!
Our house of cards,
one blow away from caving in,
what tasted sweet before,
already bores us now.
Yeah oh we want more,
nothing is enough,
so we fill the floor,
oh baby we love the rush.

About:
Originally written in December 2014. #ThrowbackThursday
I chose this for the last Thursday of the year to celebrate youth. We’ve made it guys, we’ve reached the end of another year adding to our lives, making us one year older, wiser and stronger. It may sound like a cliché, but it’s true. Now matter how old we get, we all have one thing in common: our youth. An exciting and simpler time of our lives, magical in its own unique way. No matter what happened to us during the shaping years of our foundation, we will always treasure our youthful spirit and carry it somewhere deep within us.
Cheers to staying young at heart. 😉

BOOM! Wow, my friend. I love this. Right from the beginning…. So raw and powerful. You have touched on a truth that is universal. Always trying and striving to find that ‘thing’ that will fill the empty void in us. I used to not be able to be alone. Way back in the day I would get home from my waitress job in the late afternoon. I couldn’t change my clothes fast enough to get out the door and meet with someone. Now I love being alone. I tried to fill my void with drugs, parties, people, relationships, money, material possessions. It wasn’t until I started seeking truth, and found it, that my void was filled. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, how I love that the void is filled now.
My hats off to you. This is an amazing piece.

Yes, those first two lines!
I never experienced this as a young person. I never sought escape in drugs or alcohol. Probably because I was lost already, and was afraid of losing myself even more.
But I think you describe quite well what my kids may be going through…

Being young, it’s a curse and a blessing at the same time in so many different ways. We’re trying desperately to find ourselves, to become our own person, a unique individual.. Especially today, where there are just so many things influencing us, distracting us, guiding us, representing us, tempting us, enchanting us. However the young are not the only ones seeking themselves.

Every stage of life is a curse and a blessing in so many different ways.
You are so very right, the young aren’t the only ones trying to find themselves. I am living proof. The difference maybe is that I still don’t need drugs or alcohol to do it. But I do have some of the other addictive patterns 😦

I read this with different eyes now as I did last year. What I want to write is this: WE’ll never again be as young as we are now. We should take advantage as much as we can 😉
