A pretty good life.

I smell the scent of pines.
I stand on tiptoes to catch more of this wonderful scent.
I am dreaming.
I wake up.
I smile.

I take showers.
Feel the water rushing over my skin.
Each drop like tiny sparkling heartbeats.
I close my eyes and suddenly;
I’m standing in a field of flowers.

I listen to music.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Johnny Cash and many more.
They are the shit!
I can’t keep still and I sing along.
Every song of theirs: A genious hit.

I go out at night to the youth center.
To meet the friends of my youth.
To turn up the music.
To dance.
To drink.
To celebrate.
To live freely.
To find you.

My heart beats for many things.
For music.
For culture.
For freedom.
For love.
For sunsets and beaches.
For the whole wide world and what it teaches.

I gaze at the stars.
There are so many!
I get lost sometimes.
I dream.
I wonder.
I’m amazed.
I can never get enough of this starry haze.

I spend my summers with friends.
We like to hang at the lake.
We talk.
We swim.
We grill.
We chill.
Those are my summer days.

During sleepless summer nights,
I enjoy being outside beneath the sky.
Beneath the full moon,
I feel alive.
And during those nights I am nocturnal,
I so often wish I could be eternal.
There is so much to see,
and so much to be,
but everything is simply too much,
even for me.

Though the winters are cold,
there’s so much warmth they hold.
The air I breathe is so thin and clear.
Cleansing my mind of all my fears and the voices I hear.
I let it all go.
I bury the stress of a year,
under the snow.

As I grow older,
I become much wiser, stronger and bolder.
I start to look back at days far behind,
and as I remember them,
I begin to smile.
I’m not only looking back,
I’m looking forward, too;
To having a family.
To creating a few little me’s.
And to passing on,
what I have learned and earned,
during my glory days.

One day,
when it’s time for me to go,
I won’t cry.
I will look back on all these days I got to spend,
and I will smile.
I’ll be glad that I’ve had the chance,
to be alive,
and all in all,
that I’ve lived

a pretty good life.

  1. This is an amazing poem. Really great as well for someone so young to have that insight.
    Please don’t stop writing!

      • Then I am glad. I hope you know that I wouldn’t have written this if it hadn’t been something I believed. I was really touched by the rhythm, the rhyming, everything you managed to express in this poem.

      • It’s funny how things touch us sometimes.. This poem started as the most beautiful dream I had yesterday morning.
Oh, it was so incredibly beautiful, this however was very difficult/is very difficult to put in the right words. I’m so happy I still remember a few beautiful fragments of this dream. It has been very inspiring and these are just the few words that came out of my fingertips when I thought about that dream yesterday.. And believe me, I’m so touched by this dream, I must’ve reread this poem over 50 times since yesterday. Thank you, again!!

I can’t tell you, how often I wished I could’ve recorded my dream somehow to rewatch it again..

      • I believe you.
Drems are powerful things. They show us paths that our deep conscience wants us to follow. We should always heed them.
All I can say is that you managed to transcribe this dream beautifully. And for such a young person to have such a powerful dream is amazing, truly! 🙂
        Hugs!

    • I’m pretty happy that I could tickle your senses with my words.. It’s good to get tickled every once in a while.
Haha, however hanging out with me during some summer days means having your laughing muscles tickled so hard, that you’ll end up needing a vacation from those exhausting summer days with me!
Even when we chill, I still manage to ramble on and on and on. From what I’ve heard so far, people seem to find my ramblings in person hilariously funny. 😀
